Bear Trap: Joiner Guide for More Damage
In the Bear Trap, it is not just about sending as many troops as possible. Most of the damage comes from the right combination of joiner hero, troop setup and good rally coordination.
The first hero in your joiner lineup is extremely important. Many players automatically send their strongest heroes, but this can actually reduce the alliance damage if the wrong skill is activated.
What really matters in Bear Trap?
The bear does not attack back. That means stats like defense, health or infirmary capacity are basically irrelevant here. For damage, two things matter the most:
- Attack
- Lethality
Lethality is especially valuable for many players because this stat is often less developed than attack. That means an extra lethality bonus can sometimes bring much more value than a normal attack bonus.
Bear Trap is not about surviving. It is only about dealing maximum damage.
Rally Leader vs. Joiner: The Big Difference
The rally leader contributes almost everything to the rally: troops, research, gear, heroes, buffs and other account stats. For joiners, it works differently.
As a joiner, the most important things are:
- the troops you send
- the first expedition skill of your first hero
The second and third heroes are not very important for the rally skill effect. They can increase march capacity, but their skills are not counted the way many players think.
The game only uses the strongest useful joiner skills inside the rally. If someone sends a defensive or useless hero in the first hero slot, that hero can block a much better skill.
It is better to send only troops than to place the wrong hero in the first joiner slot.

Best Joiner Heroes for Bear Trap
The best joiner heroes are the ones whose first expedition skill directly increases troop damage. Heroes with lethality bonuses are especially strong.
| Tier | Heroes | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| S-Tier | Chenko, Amadeus, Yeonwoo | Very strong troop lethality bonus. Ideal as joiner heroes. |
| A-Tier | Amane, Hilde, Thrud | Good attack bonuses. Useful when the best lethality slots are already covered. |
| B-Tier | Marlin, Zoe, Jaeger, Petra | Can be useful, but some effects are less consistent or depend on chance. |
| Not recommended | Jabel, Gordon, Longfei, Helga, Diana | Defensive or unsuitable skills bring almost no value against the bear. |
Very important: newer heroes are not automatically better. What matters is not only the generation, but the first expedition skill the hero actually brings as a joiner.
How to Use Chenko Correctly
Chenko is one of the strongest joiner heroes for Bear Trap because his troop lethality bonus is very powerful. This bonus can work well together with other strong joiner skills, but there is a limit.
If a rally already has enough strong Chenko slots, another Chenko may not add extra value. In that case, it is often better to send only troops or use a hero mainly for march capacity.
Coordinate inside the alliance. Not everyone has to send Chenko blindly if the rally is already set up well.
Recommended Troop Setup by Generation
Your troop setup should be adjusted as your account develops. Many players keep using an old standard formation for too long and lose damage because of it.
| Generation | Infantry | Cavalry | Archers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gen 1 | 10% | 30% | 60% |
| Gen 2 | 10% | 20% | 70% |
| Gen 3 | 10% | 10% | 80% |
| Gen 4+ | 1% | 10% | 89% |
The reason for the high archer percentage is simple: with later generations, the best damage output shifts more and more toward archers. Still, you should not just send 100% archers.
Infantry and cavalry remain important because some skills only work properly if those troop types are present in the march.
Do not only look at percentages. There should be at least around 5,000 infantry in the march, so the formation does not lose unnecessary damage.
Do Not Open Too Many Rallies at Once
A common Bear Trap mistake is opening too many rallies at the same time. This spreads active players across too many rallies and none of them becomes really strong.
Fewer rallies with more participants are usually better than many half-empty rallies. If only a few players are online, fewer rallies should be opened. This increases the chance that the important joiner skills actually land in the rallies.
R4 and R5 should keep an eye on how many players are active during Bear Trap and adjust the number of open rallies accordingly.
Short Version
- The first joiner hero is decisive. Only the first expedition skill really matters.
- Chenko, Amadeus and Yeonwoo are especially strong because of their lethality bonus.
- Avoid defensive heroes. Defense does not help against the bear.
- Adjust your troop setup to your generation. From Gen 4+ onward, aim more toward 1/10/89.
- Do not open too many rallies. A few strong rallies are better than many weak ones.
- Coordination helps. A coordinated alliance deals much more damage.
Conclusion
Bear Trap is not an event where you should just send anything. The difference between average damage and really strong alliance damage often comes down to small details: the right joiner hero, the right troop setup and clean rally coordination.
If you use your first joiner slot correctly, avoid bad heroes and adjust your formation regularly, you help not only yourself but the whole alliance.
DVG rule: Think before joining. Every correct joiner makes the rally stronger.
